History
Rosilane is not a typical coffee producer, as she works together only with her family: her husband, Gilmar, and their three sons, Guilherme, Gustavo and Gean. They are a family of micro coffee farmers, striving to produce top quality selectively harvested coffees, as the majority of coffees in Brazil are also hand-picked but using a stripping-style harvest. The selective harvest is not common practice as it is very labour intensive, making the costs for this method quite high. But at the end of the day, the coffees are significantly cleaner, much more flavourful and the quality for roasting is undeniable.
Growing and producing specialty coffees is not an easy thing to do in this region, as the mountains of Caparaó are very steep. The terrain is very uneven, making accessibility difficult when it comes time to harvest the coffees. Despite these difficulties, the microclimate of the region is perfect for producing one of the best coffees that Brazil has to offer with exceptionally distinctive flavour profiles.
Coffee Processing System
Only the ripe beans are selectively harvested. The coffee is then washed to separate the floaters from the ripe cherries before the cherries are dried on suspended beds in the sun. After drying, the coffee is taken to wooden bins for a period of 30-40 days to rest.
Future
Rosilanes’ wish for the future is to be known worldwide as a Specialty Coffee Producer, because she and her family truly love what they do. She is also investing in better ways of post-harvest processing, acquiring more suspended beds and equipment to improve the final stages of the coffees.
